The project to speed up and increase the capacity of the rail link between the regional capitals of Plzeň and České Budějovice has reached its first major milestone. The zoning decision has become legally binding.

The nearly 50-kilometer project also includes the double-tracking of the Nepomuk–Plzeň, Koterov section, which will allow the track speed to be increased to 160 km/h. As part of the project, the stations at Nepomuk, Blovice, Nezvěstice, and Starý Plzenec will be renovated, as will the stops at Jetenovice, Nekvasovy, Srby, Ždírec u Plzně, Zdemyslice, and Šťáhlavy. A new stop, Horažďovice Lhota, will be established to replace the discontinued Velký Bor stop, and the Mileč stop will be relocated to a new position closer to the village.
