Charakteristika
A complex transformation an urban space of a significant importance
The aim of this project was the comprehensive regeneration of the street environment along Dukelských hrdinů and U Výstaviště streets, specifically the section stretching from Strossmayerovo náměstí to just beyond the junction of U Výstaviště and Bubenská streets. The total length of the reconstructed section was approximately 1 km. The aim of the project was to enhance the quality of the public space, improve the transport infrastructure and increase comfort for all users of the area. The redevelopment also included the refurbishment of tram stops, which were redesigned to be barrier-free and fitted with raised boarding platforms to allow passengers to board trams more comfortably and safely. An integral part of the works also involved the necessary relocation of utility networks and the addition of new greenery on both streets, which contributed to the enhancement and overall improvement of the quality of the urban environment.
Following on the broader urban planning concept
The project preparation followed on from the conceptual study "Letenský kříž" by IPR, which, in addition to Dukelských hrdinů Street, also addressed modifications to Veletržní and Strojnická Streets. However, these sections were excluded from the implementation of the project in question and dealt with separately. Coordination with the project "Modernisation of the Prague-Bubny – Prague-Výstaviště line", which was being prepared in parallel, was also a significant part of the project preparation. The two projects overlapped, particularly in the area in front of the Výstaviště, where it was necessary to harmonise both the technical and operational solutions.
Integration of railway and urban infrastructure
As part of the project, a new staircase was added to link the railway station with the forecourt of the Výstaviště. This feature has significantly improved pedestrian connections in the area and contributed to the better integration of rail transport into the structure of the urban public space. The result of the project is a modernised and functionally unified street environment, offering greater comfort for public transport passengers, safer movement for pedestrians and a higher-quality environment for both residents and visitors to this important part of Prague.
